Many college students across Ohio have seen tuition increase by more than one percent every year since they began their collegiate educations, and Ohio University students are no exception. In April 2012, according to an article in the Columbus Dispatch, the Board of Trustees voted to increase tuition and fees by 3.5 percent, which was the maximum amount allowed that year.

In 2014, the Board of Trustees approved the OHIO Guarantee. When it came time for the Board to approve tuition and fees for next fall’s incoming class, they were met with protests.
